Bus Driver

Ran into a guy who told me this amazing story about his time as a schoolbus driver. He was assigned the bus ranked as the toughest as far as keeping discipline. I didn't know they ranked buses. As I recall, He laid down the law on his first day and that didn't work. So he started using the carrot and stick approach. I dont know exactly how it worked, but he started a competition related to behavior on the bus and he gave out prizes. He would also show the kids that he loved them as human beings in the world, something many or most on the bus had not much experienced. He said it is likely most of them came from homes without fathers and often troubled mothers.
Things didn't change overnight, but slowly the behavior of the students on the bus began to change. They were so happy that someone actually cared for them and they wanted to impress him for his love and also win prizes. Long story short, this bus driver pulled off a miracle. There were still some minor problems, but overall, it was a transformation. The school leaders were astonished and wanted to know his secret. It's no secret, it is about love, something most on ther bus hadn't eperienced. Yes, he told them how he expected them to behave, and they even came to welcome it.
No child is born bad, they learn it in a bad environment. This bus driver showed that there is goodness in every child no matter how deep it is buried. If only all people who work with young people could see this.
