As a teenager, Danny was already interested in programming all kinds of computer programs, ranging from accounting software, invoicing software, and remote monitoring of refrigeration and mission-critical freezer systems for blood and tissue samples in hospitals.

It was therefore a logical step to start the Master's Degree in Computer Science program in the late 1980s.

In 1996, he started as a researcher in computer security in academia, focusing on the design and development of advanced identity, authentication, and encryption systems for various applications, ranging from home automation systems, car-to-car communication systems, RFID passports, online and offline wireless payments, wearables, and eHealth applications.

Following the publication of the European Directive 1999/93/EC on electronic signatures in 1999, he designed the Belgian electronic identity card system for the government. In the period 2006-2008, he also designed the electronic voting system that has been used for all official elections in Belgium since 2010, for which patent number 8267306 was issued in 2012.

In 2011, he received his PhD in Engineering entitled "Contributions to the Analysis and Design of Large-Scale Identity Management Systems", in which he extensively explains both the privacy aspects and the technical details of these applications.

During his research work, he has also focused on computer forensic investigations for various courts in the context of financial fraud, fraud with payment systems and bank and credit cards, and the possession of illegal video and photo material.

In 2016, Danny developed a specific interest in nutrition and health, which led him to become a certified nutritionist in 2018 and a licensed dietician in 2022.

Since 2019, Danny has been living low-carb and in ketosis based on an omnivore ketogenic lifestyle, so without following a strict ketogenic diet!

As a dietitian, Danny provides personalized preventative and therapeutic nutritional advice to improve overall health and reduce complications of chronic inflammation, type 1 and 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, cancer, food addiction, mental health problems, Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease, epilepsy, ADHD, PCOS, obesity, overweight and other insulin resistance-related problems.

This variety of hands-on expertise, knowledge, and sophistication, both in the computer security and health fields, enables Danny to analyse and explain a multitude of topics in an expert manner.

THE DISCUSSION WILL COVER 3 TOPICS: “1. Censoring free speech about COVID in an academic setting; 2. Is it even possible to protect your privacy from womb to grave? and 3. Who benefits most from Bitcoin?”

1. Danny worked as a postdoc research manager in academia during the COVID crisis, and given his expertise in nutrition and dietetics, he set up a series of websites to provide the public with real, evidence-based recommendations to prevent and recover from COVID-related problems. These initiatives were not really appreciated and caused an avalanche of problems.

2. As part of his work in computer security, Danny also designed several advanced privacy-enhancing applications for private companies, e-government, eHealth, and payment systems. This knowledge also allowed him to identify the infamous Bluetooth MAC addresses of COVID-jabbed people. It should come as no surprise that privacy-aware applications still pose serious privacy issues!

3. The last topic Danny discusses is rarely well understood, but is very easy to understand: who really benefits the most from Bitcoin?

With this presentation, it will quickly become clear that Danny has an exceptionally broad, practical knowledge and expertise in various areas, including health aspects, but also daily life, computer use, and interactions with both large and small companies, organizations, and government!
