17. Essence of Kitāb At Tawhīd and Love of Allah | Shaykh Ahmad Musa Jibril (حفظه الله)

The Shaykh (حفظه الله) continues to explain the depth and beauty of Kitāb At-Tawḥīd, specifically highlighting the branch of Tawḥīd known as Tawḥīd Al-Asmā’ was-Ṣifāt — the Oneness of Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى in His Names and Attributes. He explains that Imām Al-Bukhāri رَحِمَهُ ٱللَّٰهُ compiled this chapter not to introduce anything new, but to fulfill Allah’s command: “If you differ in anything, refer it back to Allah and the Messenger…” (Surat An-Nisā’, verse 59). Al-Bukhāri simply presents the proof — Qur’ān and Sunnah — and uses his chapter titles to point to the Wajh ad-Dalālah (the intended meaning) in each Hadith or verse.

The Shaykh reflects that, beyond its theological refutation of deviant sects like the Jahmiyyah, this chapter is a gateway to knowing and loving Allah. He reminds students of a past series during Ramadan that centered on the love of Allah, explaining that this chapter continues that same core message. True love of Allah is built upon knowing Him, and the best way to know Him is through His Names, Attributes, and Actions.

This isn’t abstract theory — love for Allah must be real, lived, and expressed through obedience, sincerity, and steadfastness. The more one learns about Allah’s Majestic Qualities, the deeper their love becomes. That love then becomes the fuel for worship, for character, and for striving to meet Allah on the Day of Judgment with a heart full of devotion.
