16. Dangers of Non Revelatory Sources | Shaykh Ahmad Musa Jibril (حفظه الله)

The Shaykh (حفظه الله) highlights how Imām Al-Bukhāri رَحِمَهُ ٱللَّٰهُ preserved the clarity of Tawḥīd by returning to the only infallible sources: the Qur’ān and Sunnah. In matters of the unseen (Ghayb)—especially Allah’s Names and Attributes—there is no room for speculation, philosophical reasoning, personal dreams, or weak narrations. These matters are not subject to intellect, guesswork, or external sources. No scholar or saint has seen Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى to describe Him; we rely solely on revelation.

The Shaykh warns that even though many people claim to follow the Qur’ān and Sunnah, true adherence is shown by following the methodology of the Salaf. When that standard is abandoned in favor of intellect, desires, or blind imitation of scholars, deviation inevitably spreads. He explains that the intellect was created to understand revelation, not to judge it. The use of weak Ahādīth, Isra’īliyyāt, or mystical experiences in ‘Aqīdah leads to confusion and misguidance.

The only path to sound belief is through clear and authentic proofs grounded in the revelation. This is why Al-Bukhāri based his Kitāb At-Tawḥīd entirely on Qur’anic verses and sound Hadīth. The Shaykh concludes with a powerful reminder: Tawḥīd is not merely a subject to be studied — it is the very purpose of our lives. It is what we live for, die upon, sacrifice for, and call others to. We must hold onto it as our ultimate conviction and our most sacred trust: Lā ilāha illa Allāh.
