14. Primacy of Tawhīd Over Fiqh Details | Shaykh Ahmad Musa Jibril (حفظه الله)

The Shaykh (حفظه الله) draws a powerful comparison between the Major Fiqh (Al-Fiqh Al-Akbar), which is Tawḥīd, and the Minor Fiqh (Furū‘ Al-Fiqh), which includes matters like prayer, fasting, and almsgiving. He warns that perfecting the detailed rulings of Islam while being deficient in Tawḥīd is like navigating without a rudder or planting a tree without roots—it may stand temporarily, but it cannot survive. True guidance begins with establishing the correct belief in the Oneness of Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى.

The Shaykh emphasizes that the entire mission of the Prophets was founded upon Tawḥīd. He supports this by citing verses where Prophets like Hūd, Ṣāliḥ, Shu‘ayb, Nūḥ, and all Messengers preached the same essential message: “Worship Allah. You have no deity other than Him.” These commands are repeated across nations and time, because worshipping Allah alone and rejecting Tāghūt (false deities) is the core of Islam. As Allah said: “And We certainly sent into every nation a messenger [saying], ‘Worship Allah and avoid Tāghūt.’” (Surat An-Naḥl, verse 36). The Shaykh reminds us that success in both this world and the next begins with Tawḥīd — the root of all obedience, and the very essence of the Da’wah of all the Messengers.
