5. Wisdom in Ending with Tawhīd and Al-Bukhāri's Approach | Shaykh Ahmad Musa Jibril (حفظه الله)

In this segment, the Shaykh (حفظه الله) continues exploring the wisdom behind Imām Al-Bukhāri’s choice to end Sahīh Al-Bukhāri with Kitāb At-Tawḥīd. Scholars often emphasize the most important topics by placing them either at the beginning or end of a work, and Al-Bukhāri رَحِمَهُ ٱللَّٰهُ strategically chose to both begin and end his compilation with Tawḥīd. While the book starts with Bad’ al-Waḥy (Revelation), the first substantive chapter is Kitāb Al-Īmān (Faith), whose first pillar is belief in Allah — that is, Tawḥīd. The first Hadith in that chapter is the famous narration of Ibn ‘Umar رضي الله عنهما: “Islam is built on five pillars...”, with the first being the Shahādah. Thus, Tawḥīd is the anchor at both the entry and conclusion of the work. This literary structure ensures that the concept of Tawḥīd — the absolute Oneness of Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى — is embedded deeply in the heart and mind of the reader. It’s a reminder that all other Islamic sciences, rulings, and deeds are secondary branches that stem from and rely upon the firm root of Tawḥīd.
