4. Understanding Al-Bukhāri's Methodology and Chapter Placement | Shaykh Ahmad Musa Jibril حفظه الله

This powerful session explains the wisdom behind Imām Al-Bukhāri’s chapter titles and structure in Sahīh Al-Bukhāri, focusing on why he concluded his monumental work with Kitāb At-Tawḥīd. While some questioned why the foundational subject of Tawḥīd appears at the end rather than the beginning, the scholars responded that Al-Bukhāri رَحِمَهُ ٱللَّٰهُ intentionally ended with the highest, most essential subject. He began the book with Revelation (Bad’ al-Waḥy), followed by Īmān (faith), then Knowledge, each building a foundation leading to worship and understanding of the religion. The chapter before Tawḥīd is Kitāb al-I‘tiṣām bil-Kitāb was-Sunnah (Clinging to the Qur’an and Sunnah), highlighting that during trials, salvation lies in the Qur’an, Sunnah, and ultimately in pure Tawḥīd. The lesson ends with a reminder that our lives, like Al-Bukhāri’s book, must conclude with Lā ilāha illAllāh, for that is the key to Paradise — as taught in the Hadith: “Whoever’s last words are Lā ilāha illAllāh will enter Jannah.” (Sunan Abū Dāwūd).
