Loggerhead sea turtles are one of the largest turtles in the ocean. They range from 140 - 450kg (300 - 1,000 pounds) and have massive heads that allow them to crush large conch shells easily. They feed on mollusks and other invertebrates, such as lobsters and crabs.
These gentle giants are usually shy and reclusive but the males become curious during mating season when they will occasionally approach scuba divers for a close inspection.
Kristy was diving in the waters near Akumal, Mexico when this behemoth spotted her from a distance and swam right at her. She needed to gently push him away to avoid a collision.
She then followed the great beast to get some photographs. She realized her husband had his camera running and asked if he had captured the encounter on video. Her squeals of delight show just how happy she was that he had recorded it all.
