Week 22 Readings of our 2025 Chronological Bible-in-a-Year Reading Challenge have us continue in the back-and-forth narrative of the Divided Kingdoms—with Judah in the south and Israel in the north.

This week's readings take us all the way to Jerusalem's 11th king since Solomon (Jotham) and, in Samaria, the 18th king of Israel (Pekah); feature the succession of the prophet Elijah to Elisha, together with many of his miracles; and make mention of two preachers with their own books—Jonah and Isaiah.

In this tutorial, Chad encourages us to appreciate the Book of Jonah in the genre of satire or parody—something intended to get us giggling—yet, at the same time, a story deeply prophetic, with parallels to the life and message of the Great (future) Prophet, Jesus.

But most importantly, he directs our attention to a consistent theme in this week's narrative: that Yahweh is faithful to the covenant promises He has made to His people, courtesy of Abraham, Moses and David.
