The Big Picture – Information and Education Overseas | U.S. Army Documentary (Public Domain)

Description:
111.TV.198 — This episode of The Big Picture explores how the U.S. Army kept soldiers informed and educated during overseas deployments, and how their children continued their schooling while living abroad.

The first half of the film focuses on the Army’s Information and Education (I&E) programs. These include services like Armed Forces Radio, Stars and Stripes newspaper, and the American Forces Network (AFN)—all aimed at keeping troops connected, informed, and entertained no matter where they were stationed.

The second half shifts to the lives of soldiers' children attending Department of Defense Dependents Schools (DoDDS) in Germany and Japan. The film shows that, despite living overseas, these students experienced familiar aspects of American school life: homework, sports, field trips, dances, and graduation—while also gaining exposure to new cultures.

This video is in the public domain, created by the U.S. Department of Defense as part of The Big Picture series.
