Lama Dawa Zangpo’s Commentary:
The Buddha here again makes a sweeping true statement. If we look at the entire world, the world is empty of anything. There is nothing in this world that is self that is actually permanent, and there is nothing that belongs to a self. Everything is in flux and change and in a state of passing away, even as it is born. So, the Buddha in many, many ways, in many teachings talks about this emptiness, again, not nothingness, but this idea that nothing is actually, solidly, permanently real, and he invites us to investigate this for ourselves.
