SECOND SAMUEL is devoted to the historical record of the monarchy of David over the nation of Israel. The book records King David's rise to power, his capture and establishment of Jerusalem to be the capital of Israel, his desire and preparation in building the temple, the Davidic Covenant and its picture of the future reign of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the sorrows in a royal family. The book contains 24 chapters and 695 inspired verses of the kingdom of David. The end of 1 Samuel and this book appear to have been written by Nathan the prophet and Gad the seer ( 1 Chron. 29:29 ).

King James Bible.
