Stop Reading Your Bible If You're Doing This

When we as believers read our Bible, but don't walk and obedience to what it says, we are slapping God in the face and misrepresenting Him to others around us. When we read our Bible or our daily devotionals, they are not just religious acts to cross off and make us feel holy or "Christian." When we read the Bible, it is first and foremost meant to be a time of listening to God speak to us directly. He wants to show us who He is and what He has to say about our hearts. His word is a mirror. It shows us who we are and how God sees us.

Read your Bible, yes. Even read a devotional, fine.
But don't close either of those books without truly, genuinely, and honestly searching your heart and asking God to change you. Don't walk away from your quiet time the same way you went in.

📖 Ask God before you ever start reading to show you what needs to be changed and what you need to know about Him and yourself.

📖 Commit to applying what you read and what you learn.

📖 Be obedient to listen to God as He speaks to you.

📖 Check your heart and ask yourself: Is something going to get in the way of me hearing what God has to say? Is there a sin that I need to confess and repent of? Is there an idol that I need to remove from my life?

We need to clear the way so the path is clear for the Holy Spirit to do His work in our hearts and minds. Don't let yourself get in the way of your growth with the Lord.
