OBADIAH is the shortest book in the Old Testament. It has 21 verses. The name of Obadiah means a servant of the Lord or a-sworshipper of the Lord. He disclosed Edom as arrogant, conceited, and smug men who reveled in the conquered Jews by the army of Nebuchadnezzar (Ps. 137:7; Jer. 52:4-7). The nation of Edom was unable to conquer any nation, but the people reveled in the misfortunes of Israel (Ezek. 35:11). Dishonest Edomites or Muslims believe the Abrahamic covenant was passed from Abraham to Ishmael or Esau.

Doctrinally, the book prophesies of the Edomites' hatred and violence against the Israelites during the Tribulation. The deceived manipulators of the Edomites beguile the impressionable minds of children and •young people to create havoc and murder against the Jews. The LORD God will set the record straight at the glorious return of the Lord Jesus and will obliterate the Edomites and their nations (Isa. 34; Ezek. 35; Obad. 17-21; Mal. 1:3-4; Gal. 4:22-31).
