Florida's Broken Child Support System

📊 Florida’s child support system is broken — and outdated by decades.

🗓️ It’s based on economic data from 1972 and hasn’t been updated since 1993.
🏛️ It doesn’t reflect Florida’s 2008 changes to parenting laws — like time-sharing and shared responsibility.

💸 Many parents are ordered to pay support that equals 44% or more of their income — even if they lose their job, get injured, or face unexpected hardship.

🚫 And if they fall behind? Their driver’s license gets suspended automatically.
That means no driving to work, no doctor appointments, no picking up their kids.

📉 FSU research shows the system fails low-income families.
The so-called “poverty protection” doesn’t work. Nearly half of all parents ordered to pay — don’t.
Not because they won’t. But because they can’t.

❗This isn’t support. It’s punishment.
It hurts parents. It hurts kids. And it’s long past time for reform.
