Nothing Gets Broken Till Something Gets Spoken
Nothing Gets Broken 'Till Something Gets Spoken
What does it mean to be the ancient gates, the altar of the Lord, and how is the power of our spoken words the key to breaking every chain that holds us back?
This isn’t just a message; it’s a revelation that I’ve wrestled with personally, and I want to share it with you as honestly and openly as I can. Because the truth is, nothing gets broken 'till something gets spoken.
The Ancient Gates: Who Are We?
Who then can ascend the mountain of the Lord? This question opens the scripture and it closes it. And the answer is found in the invitation: “Fling wide, you ancient gates, and let the King of glory come in.”
You might ask, what are these ancient gates? The answer is powerful and personal: We are the ancient gates. For weeks, we’ve been talking about becoming a consuming fire, about being an altar of the Lord. An altar is not just a physical place; it’s a spiritual gateway, a portal between the natural and the supernatural. You are that altar, that gate. When you open yourself, when you humble yourself, you let the King of glory enter.
In the Old Testament, the glory of the Lord was carried in the Ark of the Covenant, a box that no one could touch or even look upon directly. But Jesus Christ, the final sacrifice, laid down His life to change all that. He made a way for the Holy Spirit to live inside of us, making us the temple, the altar, the carrier of His glory. So, when the scripture says, “Fling wide, you ancient gates,” it’s not talking about bronze or steel gates, but about you and me—our hearts, our lives, our very beings. We are the gatekeepers of God’s glory.
Going Low to Go High
We often ask God, “Take us higher!” as if waiting for some divine hand to pull us up. But the Lord says, “I can’t take you higher until you go lower.” This is a paradox that flips the way we think about spiritual growth. It’s not about striving or climbing like the grueling Grouse Grind mountain in Vancouver. It’s about humility, purity of heart, and openness.
Think about flying a kite. The kite starts low, resting on the ground. It takes a little tug, a little wind, and then the kite soars. The same is true for us. When we humble ourselves, when we open our hearts and say, “Lord, I need you,” the Holy Spirit lifts us up. We don’t have to climb; we just have to open the gate.
The Reality of Spiritual Warfare and the Power of Our Words
This week has been tough for me. I’ve been pouring out encouragement, fire, and instruction to you all, but I found my bucket empty. As a man of God and a human being, I have moments when I struggle, when I feel wounded spiritually. And in those moments, I realized something crucial: the blood of Jesus is enough, but it’s not enough if we don’t open our mouths.
What does that mean? The blood of Jesus Christ has made us guilt-free, it has canceled every charge against us, and it has restored our right standing with God. But the devil still tries to throw fiery darts and word curses at us. We overcome by the blood of the Lamb and the word of our testimony. That means we have to speak out the truth, break every curse, and decree freedom over our lives.
Nothing gets broken until something gets spoken. This is the key. I want you to know that when you speak, you wield authority. You have been given dominion over the earth and the spiritual forces that seek to oppress you. But if you stay silent, the enemy’s arrows remain lodged in your heart.
My Personal Experience: Removing the Spiritual Dagger
One morning in Winnipeg, after a difficult encounter, I felt like there was a dagger in my heart. The Lord told me, “Take it out and give it to Me.” So I reached into my chest, took it out as a prophetic act, and gave it to an angel waiting at the window. That act of obedience, spoken aloud, brought immediate healing and freedom.
This morning, I did the same thing. I spoke out loud, “I remove this fiery dart in the name of Jesus Christ. Get out!” For three minutes, I declared freedom over every hurt, every word curse, every poison arrow. And instantly, everything shifted. The spiritual realm is very real, and the blood of Jesus gives us the authority to rise above every attack, but we must speak it out.
We Are Altars: Spiritual Gateways in the Earth
Let me remind you again: you are an altar. The altar is a place where the spiritual realm intervenes in the physical realm. You are a portal between heaven and earth. Wherever you go, you bring the presence of God with you. This is the reality of the exchanged life—the life Jesus gave us when He died and rose again.
There are two kingdoms—the kingdom of light and the kingdom of darkness. When you neglect your altar, when you fail to stay in obedience and communion with God, the kingdom of darkness gains ground. But when you open your heart, when you yield yourself as an altar of light, the kingdom of God prevails.
Darkness only has authority when we give it legal ground by disobedience or sin. But as believers, we have been given authority over all the power of the enemy. The enemy doesn’t care if you get to heaven or not; his goal is to keep you from discovering and exercising your authority here on earth.
Living in the Atmosphere of the Holy Spirit
God intended for us to live in the atmospheric presence of the Holy Spirit, just as fish live in water. But because of sin, the heavens were closed, and we became exposed to the powers of darkness. Yet, as born-again believers, we receive new life in Christ—a life that allows us to live in the presence and power of God.
When you understand that you are an altar, a gateway, a portal, you begin to see how your life impacts the spiritual atmosphere around you. You begin to influence not only your own life but also the society and culture where you live.
Breaking Word Curses and Decreeing Freedom
It’s critical to understand the power of your words. Proverbs says, “Death and life are in the power of the tongue.” What you speak becomes your reality. When you decree freedom, healing, and victory, you activate the authority God has given you.
That’s why I encourage you—no, I challenge you—to speak out against every fiery dart, every word curse, every negative word that has been spoken over you. Declare, “I remove this from my life in the name of Jesus.” Do this in your secret place. Do this daily. Speak to your mountain. You don’t have to climb it; you just have to speak to it.
Communion: The Ultimate Exchange
Communion is not just a ritual. It’s a deep, intimate communion with Jesus—the ultimate altar. When Jesus broke His body and poured out His blood, He made a way for us to exchange our brokenness for His wholeness. Every time we take communion, we participate in that exchange. We take in His life, His healing, His power.
As you take communion, open your heart and let the King of glory enter. Let His presence fill you and flow through you. You are an altar of the Lord, a carrier of His glory, a gateway for His kingdom to come on earth as it is in heaven.
God’s Surprises and Divine Promises
God has scheduled divine surprises for you—blessings, breakthroughs, relationships, and opportunities you didn’t even see coming. The promises of God are sure, and He delights in surprising His children with unexpected favor.
Remember Jeremiah 29:11: “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” You are on a divine timeline, and the blessings that you did not expect are on their way.
Look at the stories of Ruth, David, Joseph, and Abraham. None of them saw what God had planned coming, but God’s timing was perfect. He will do the same for you.
Conclusion: Fling Wide the Gates and Speak Life
So today, I urge you to fling wide the ancient gates of your heart. Open yourself to the King of glory. Humble yourself, go low, and let Him lift you higher than you ever imagined.
Remember, nothing gets broken until something gets spoken. Use your words to break every chain, to remove every fiery dart, to declare victory in the name of Jesus. You are more than a believer—you are an altar, a gateway, a carrier of God’s glory.
Let us walk in the authority we have been given, empowered by the blood of the Lamb and the word of our testimony. Let us live in the atmosphere of the Holy Spirit, influencing the world around us for the kingdom of light.
And as you go forward, know this: The King of glory is with you. He is your strength, your victory, your song. Rejoice in Him today, and every day, because He has already won the battle for you.
