"Welcome to the Shuv Show. I’m your host, Christene Jackman.
Tonight’s topic is one that rears its head from time to time in comments on YouTube.
The Lunar Sabbath Diversion: Is the Weekly Sabbath based on the Moon?

I’m thankful for this comment that was submitted from a listener, because it gives us a chance to pull it out into the light and examine it. This person shares their opinion:

“But the true biblical Sabbath is in the sky according to Genesis 1 vs 14, that is why every dated sabbath of scripture is always on the 8 15 22 and 29 of every lunar month.”

But is this a true statement?
The first thing we need to do is read the verse they referenced: Beresheet/Genesis 1:14,

“Then God said, ‘Let there be lights in the expanse of the heavens to separate the day from the night, and let them be for signs and for seasons and for days and years.’”

When you look at the broader context you will discover that this verse is talking about things created on Day 4. This is a very important fact. The sun, moon, and stars were created on Day 4. The very first Sabbath Day started three days later, on the 7th Day of Creation Week.
God commanded the 7th Day to be the Holy Shabbat, and every 7th day thereafter.
The Sabbath is reckoned from the first week of creation according to God’s own mouth.
Based on the first Sabbath happening 3 days after the sun, moon, and stars are created means that they are not used to reckon the weekly Sabbath day.
God Himself set the 7th Day apart as holy. That is the commandment still enforced today.

In actuality, the Biblical Hebrew calendar is lunar/solar. My friend Christina pointed out that you can see the lunar/solar aspect right there in Beresheet/Genesis 1:14 . . . "
