U.S. Border Patrol agents recently uncovered and shut down a nearly 3,000-foot-long drug smuggling tunnel beneath the U.S.-Mexico border. Discovered in early April, the tunnel was still under construction when authorities found it linking Tijuana, Mexico, to San Diego, California. According to U.S. Customs and Border Protection, the underground passage ran beneath the Otay Mesa Port of Entry and was set to emerge near or possibly inside a commercial warehouse in San Diego. Officials say the tunnel was designed for large-scale narcotics trafficking and is part of an ongoing investigation.
