Jefferson’s Reserve Cask Strength 130 Proof Review | High Proof Miss or Must-Have? | Beardly Bourbon

Today, I’m diving into the highest proof Jefferson’s Reserve I’ve personally ever tried — a limited edition 130 proof cask strength bourbon. Jefferson’s is hit-or-miss for me, so the big question is: Does this deliver on the high proof promise, or fall flat?

🟫 Nose: heavy ethanol, a touch of citrus
🟫 Palate: honey, oak, astringent tannins, dry finish
🟫 Mouthfeel: lacking complexity, hot, young
🟫 Verdict: One-trick pony — missing the layered depth I expect at this proof point

I wanted to love this. But honestly? This tastes young, lacks complexity, and doesn’t deliver the mouthfeel or flavor payoff I typically expect from barrel-proof bourbon. For $85, it’s not a regret — because I’ll share the experience with friends — but it’s not something I’ll be reaching for again anytime soon.

Some bottles just aren’t for everyone. This one isn’t for me.
