Lama Dawa Zangpo’s Commentary:
Some people hear the word emptiness, or when we say nothing ultimately exists, they think it means that emptiness refers to nothingness, but it does not mean that, as the Dalai Lama is showing us here, he says it's not nothingness. What it is, what we're talking about when we talk about emptiness, is the lack of inherent existence. Meaning, again, nothing truly exists in the ultimate permanent sense. This is very different from nothingness. We're not denying that things exist in a relative way. This is the nuanced wisdom of Buddhism.
