There was still soul in the streets, mystery in the neighborhoods, and a kind of raw, gritty charm that today feels like it’s vanished.

I was living in Shaughnessy, a rich part of town, but barely scraping by—rooming with a Scientologist and navigating the strange, psychological maze of a Christian church cult that I somehow found myself entangled with.

This was a golden age in Vancouver’s history, but beneath the surface, there were shadows—manipulation, indoctrination, and moments that would shape me forever.
