Fritz and the Beautiful Horses

Written and illustrated by Jan Brett.

The story follows Fritz, a short-legged pony who is not considered beautiful like the horses that live in a walled city. The citizens of the city only allow the most beautiful horses within their walls, and they laugh at Fritz's attempts to be like them.

Despite his lack of outward beauty, Fritz is gentle and kind. When the bridge to the city breaks, it is Fritz who rescues the children stranded on the other side, proving that there are things more important than being beautiful.

Through his actions, Fritz earns a special place in the city and in the hearts of its people.
