Bakersfield, CA - The Kern County Sheriff's Office has released body-worn camera footage from a May 9 officer-involved shooting in northeast Bakersfield that resulted in injuries to a deputy, the suspect, and a woman.

On May 9, 2025, at approximately 6:30 a.m., deputies were dispatched to the 600 block of Water Street following reports of a male subject armed with a hammer, a machete, and a firearm. Upon arrival, deputies identified the suspect as 42-year-old Sadi Geovani Diaz, who was armed with a firearm.

An officer-involved shooting ensued, as seen in the video, when the suspect pointed a gun at deputies. The suspect then shot again after he was seen on the ground after the initial shots were fired, as seen in the video. That's when the deputy was shot in his hand.

A woman had initially called, who reported being shot by the suspect. She was transported to the hospital for treatment of her injuries.

The suspect, Sadi Geovani Diaz, 42, was also taken to the hospital for treatment and arrested. He was charged with attempted murder, burglary, kidnapping, kidnapping with a firearm, assault on a peace officer, and carrying a loaded firearm without registration.

Homicide detectives responded to the scene to lead the investigation. The Kern County Sheriff's Office stated that it investigates any use of deadly force by its members, with findings submitted to the Kern County District Attorney's Office for review and potential criminal prosecution.

On June 13, 2025, the Sheriff's Office convened an Incident Review Board to examine the use of force in this incident. The board determined that the use of force was within policy.

According to court records, Diaz is due in court this Wednesday and Friday for hearings regarding his charges.
