Early Saturday morning, June 14, 2025, a routine traffic stop in Moncks Corner, South Carolina, turned perilous when an impaired driver crashed into a Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office patrol vehicle. The incident occurred around 2:30 a.m. near South Live Oak Drive and Wildwood Lane, as deputies were arresting another individual suspected of driving under the influence (DUI).

While deputies were detaining the first suspect, a second driver, identified as 32-year-old Lauren Michelle Skinner of Moncks Corner, allegedly intoxicated, slammed into the marked patrol cruiser. The collision, captured on video released by the sheriff’s office, narrowly missed deputies standing nearby, highlighting the dangers law enforcement officers face during routine operations. No deputies were injured in the crash, but the incident underscored the risks of impaired driving.

Berkeley County Sheriff Duane Lewis condemned the reckless behavior, stating, “This could have ended with one of our deputies being killed. Impaired driving is selfish and puts everyone at risk, including those who protect our communities.” Skinner was arrested and charged with DUI, though additional charges may be pending as the investigation continues.
