Friday the 13th, along with many other associations that the number 13 can make (such as the 13th floor of a building, Tarot Trump XIII, Death), is an ominous portent of misfortune to many Western people. Researchers estimate that as many as 10 percent of the U.S. population has a fear of the number 13, and each year the even more specific fear of Friday the 13th, known as paraskevidekatriaphobia, results in financial losses in excess of $800 million, as people avoid marrying, traveling or even working. But why?

The point of origin for this superstition is often cited as the Last Supper, due to the fact that Judas Iscariot was the 13th person to take his seat at the table. In Spain, Tuesday the 13th is the unlucky day. So why Friday the 13th in the US and Europe? For the answer to that, we must look to the Templars and King Phillip the VI of France. And in doing so, we will have an oportuunity to examine the possibility that the Templars actually and literally turned lead into gold, analyze the androgynous goat-god Baphomet, and take a deep look into the secrets of the 30th degree of Scottish Rite Masonry, the Knight Kadosh, using 33* degree Supreme Council Commander Albert Pike's compendium of Masonic knowledge, Morals and Dogma. The Knights Templar were mediavel warrior monks that defended the Holy Land in the name of Christ. They were defenders of the the Graal; the Holy Grail that was said to have held the blood of Christ....or were they? The Templars were accused of heresy in the form of homosexual abominations and the worship of an androgynous, goat headed, figure known as Baphomet. An edict for their heads was issued by King Phillip the IV, and the Templars were arrested on Friday, October 13, 1307. They were nearly all executed. But of course...there is ore to this story.
