In episode 9, in Acts 10, Peter proclaims that God accepts all Israelites who fear Him and do righteousness—whether in Judaea or scattered among the nations (Acts 10:34–36; Deut 10:17). Cornelius was one such Israelite, and Peter emphasizes that Christ healed those “oppressed of the devil” (G1228), referring not to demonic possession but to unjust rule—often by human authorities (Luke 13:16; Rev 2:10). In Acts 13, Paul calls Elymas a “child of the devil” (v.10), condemning his slander and opposition to truth, echoing how magicians opposed Moses (Ex 7:11; 2Tim 3:8). Paul warns the Corinthians not to mix Christ with idols or devils (G1140), as pagan sacrifices represent deception and false worship (1Cor 10:20–21; Lev 17:7; Deut 32:17). The “devil” here is a slanderer, deceiver, or corrupt influence—not a supernatural entity. In Ephesians 2:2, the “prince of the power of the air” refers to ideological forces that shape disobedient minds through speech and media. Paul says not to “give place to the devil” (Eph 4:27), meaning not to let anger, pride, or lies gain control. Church leaders are warned not to fall into the devil’s snares—pride, slander, or bad reputation (1Tim 3:6–7,11). Hebrews 2:14 teaches that Jesus destroyed the devil’s power—death—by nullifying sin’s penalty, freeing us from fear and bondage (Rom 6:23). James 4:7 urges believers to resist the devil, meaning worldly desires and carnal opposition to God. Peter echoes this in 1Peter 5:8, warning of slanderous human adversaries, not literal demons. Throughout these passages, “the devil” consistently refers to real people, corrupt systems, or internal rebellion—not a fallen angel. The good news is that through Christ, we can reject the lies, stand in truth, and live in the light.
