Chameli Is Finally Having a Jolly Good Time

Chameli tried in vain to escape as her owner swung the heavy wooden rod over his head, yelling as he landed blow after painful blow onto the expectant mother’s back and flanks. When he finally put the weapon down, she might have thought the attack was over, but her owner was just getting started. He grabbed a pole with a heavy metal spade on one end and struck the pony’s back. She collapsed and struggled to get up, but the blows kept coming. Thankfully, someone saw this, filmed the assault, and sent the video to Animal Rahat. Rescuers located Chameli, whose body was a roadmap of scars and wounds. She was partially blind, with ribs that jutted out of her taut skin, but her suffering ended that day. The police seized Chameli, and the team brought her to the Ranapur sanctuary. Just a few days after her arrival, Chameli gave birth to a handsome foal with a vibrant personality. Caretakers named him “Jolly,” and now, he and his mother will know only kindness.
