Lama Dawa Zangpo’s Commentary:
Thrangu Rinpoche, a great scholar and very, very wise master in the Karma Kagyu tradition of Tibetan Buddhism, is telling us that the concept of a self is the root of our problem, and the more we solidify this idea of our own existence. The more we have something to protect, the more we worry about losing things and the more suffering that we have, but it doesn't end there. As Thrangu Rinpoche says, it's very possible to actually get rid of this inherent notion or grasping at a self, and the reason is very simple, because ultimately the self is an illusion. It doesn't actually exist, not in an ultimate sense. Therefore, there is hope.
