Welcome to the Show.

Jammu and Kashmir, a princely state with a Muslim majority, became disputed after the 1947 partition of India and Pakistan. Maharaja Hari Singh chose to join India after a Pakistan-backed invasion, triggering the first Indo-Pak war. The region was split between India and Pakistan, with the UN calling for a plebiscite that never happened. In the 1980s, political unrest and rigged elections led to militancy and heavy militarization. Kashmir remains a deeply contested and volatile region to this day.
