I suspect dual systems, at least potentially. The homing system would be the most fail proof. Place a homing device in the buildings and it’s about 100% certain that the plane would fly itself right there. A preprogrammed flight path on the autopilot would also be a good idea, just in case. The systems would overlap so there wouldn’t be a problem.

@Michael Cook I was told by Captain Russ Wittenberg that an airliner could fly in on autopilot to a radio beacon. The tolerance would +/- 10 feet.

I can’t speak definitely, but what tower was Bobby Maclivane in? The lobby was blown out, and that’s how he died. There were fire fighters in the building by the time of the destruction, no doubt. There’s a great old video of a fire fighter talking about getting bounced around like pinballs in a stairwell and they decided to exit the building. “You know what, time to go”.

I think it’s helpful to think of it like an intersection, in traffic. The traffic is horizontal, like a beam or girder. In a typical 4 way intersection, you’ve got 4 directions of traffic coming together in one place. The main flow of traffic would be the girder and the lesser flow of traffic would be a beam, coming into the girder.
