What chronological time does the prayer “Thy will be done on Earth as it is in Heaven” speak to? Though it has had and currently has practical application in that our goal should be to live in accordance with His Kingdom Calling and bringing about the will of God on the Earth, it won’t happen until the Millennial Kingdom. Yet, the fullness of that prayer is completed after the Millennium, where in the New heaven and the New Earth, there will be no more death, no more tears, no more sorrow, no more pain… a place wherein God’s will is ultimately realized. That being: to have transformed sons that love Him, and a Bride for the Lamb… ruling from heaven over “peoples” who are then truly living in His image on Earth. The Millennial Kingdom of Jesus is a giant step closer to that time. The 21st Chapter of Revelation speaks to this time after the Millennium; the time of ‘Eternity’/God’s eternal Kingdom. See Revelation 21:1-7… “And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea. And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God. And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away. And he that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. And he said unto me, Write: for these words are true and faithful. And he said unto me, It is done. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give unto him that is athirst of the fountain of the water of life freely. He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son” (note the differentiation between those who are called God’s ‘people’ and those who are called ‘God’s sons’. That honor of (firstborn) sonship is for those who were Overcomers in this life). See Revelation 3:21… “To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne. See also Revelation 2:26… “The one who overcomes, and the one who keeps My deeds until the end, I will give him authority over the nations” (authority over the Gentile nations, both in the Millennial Kingdom and the nations of the New Earth wherein the ‘people’ of God reside).
Millennial Kingdom Understanding…
Read Genesis Chapters 46-50, which detail Jacob and his family moving to Egypt, Joseph’s reunion with his brothers, and the blessings that Jacob bestows upon all of his sons, doubling Joseph’s portion by blessing both Ephraim and Manasseh. (Here we see that Jacob’s prophetic words/pronouncements spoken over each son was based according to how they lived. This points to how significantly important it is to live out our lives in faithfulness to our Calling, for the way we live sets the pronouncement that affects our lives in the future/having eternal ramifications.) Knowing that God keeps His promises and that the Israelites will be brought out of the land of Egypt, Jacob leaves the Land to his seed that God promised to him through Abraham as an everlasting possession. Genesis 48:4 “Behold, I will make thee fruitful, and multiply thee, and I will make of thee a multitude of people; and will give this land to thy seed after thee for an everlasting possession.”
Our focus in this lesson will be on Israel’s role/inheritance in the Millennial Kingdom. In our study of how the life of Joseph is a type of the life of Jesus, let’s review what has taken place up until the point we are at now. Joseph had been raised up out of prison to the right hand of Pharaoh, and his ‘brethren’ were ‘set aside’ while ‘new life’ (salvation) was ministered to the Gentiles (Egyptians) by Joseph After which, in the time of famine, when Joseph’s brothers sought the Pharaoh’s help, they were directed to his governor ‘Zaphnath-paaneah,’ whom his brothers did not recognize as being Joseph. Joseph’s attention then turns to holding his brethren accountable for their having rejected him and having turned him over to Gentiles. Then, after having suffered accordingly, Joseph revealed himself to them, and then seeing him in his ‘glory,’ (clothed in the regalia of the second in command over Egypt) they wholeheartedly repented, are then were restored and reconciled to their forgiving brother Joseph.
The Anti-type of course then is Jesus, the incarnate Son of God and Son of Man…. Who, having been rejected by His brethren (the Jews 2000 years ago) was turned over to the Roman Gentiles to be Crucified. He died on the Cross (Psalm 22) and His soul passed into the ‘prison’ of Hades. Acts 2:27… “Because thou wilt not leave my soul in hell (Sheol/Hades), neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption.” Having been “made…to be sin for us”… God thereby “condemned sin in the flesh.” Read 2 Corinthians 5:21… “For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.” (Note that Jesus, “who knew no sin,” was not under the curse of death, and so had to willingly give up His Spirit before dying.) And Romans 8:3… “For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh…”) Being then raised up out of Hades to the right hand of the Father (Acts 2:22-32), His brethren (unbelieving Jews) were ‘set aside’ while ‘new resurrection life’ is granted/ministered to Gentiles. (Acts 28:28… “Be it known therefore unto you, that the salvation of God is sent unto the Gentiles, and that they will hear it.”) After which, in the time of ‘famine,’ (the Tribulation period) the Anti-Christ violently breaks the treaty with Israel, and they (the Jews) will seek God’s help earnestly. (But it is too late. It is at that point in time where the ‘Age of Mercy and Grace’ has almost ended and the dispensation is now becoming one of Justice and retribution. The following is God’s perspective after the Jews’ ‘turning to Him’ after being betrayed by the Anti-Christ… Proverbs 1:24-31… “Because I have called, and ye refused; I have stretched out my hand, and no man regarded; But ye have set at nought all my counsel, and would (have) none of my reproof: I also will laugh at your calamity; I will mock when your fear cometh; When your fear cometh as desolation, and your destruction cometh as a whirlwind; when distress and anguish cometh upon you. Then shall they call upon me (in the time of Jacob’s Trouble), but I will not answer; they shall seek me early, but they shall not find me: For that they hated knowledge, and did not choose the fear of the Lord: They would none of my counsel: they despised all my reproof. Therefore shall they eat of the fruit of their own way, and be filled with their own devices.”
See also Deuteronomy 32:1-43 where Moses, before his death, reminds the Israelites of God’s faithfulness, but also prophetically warns them of the consequences they will face for their unfaithfulness to God…
1 “Give ear, O ye heavens, and I will speak; and hear, O earth, the words of my mouth.
2 My doctrine shall drop as the rain, my speech shall distil as the dew, as the small rain upon the tender herb, and as the showers upon the grass:
3 Because I will publish the name of the Lord: ascribe ye greatness unto our God.
4 He is the Rock, his work is perfect: for all his ways are judgment: a God of truth and without iniquity, just and right is he.
5 They have corrupted themselves, their spot is not the spot of his children (they weren’t ‘raised’ this way): they are a perverse and crooked generation.
6 Do ye thus requite the Lord, O foolish people and unwise? is not he thy father that hath bought thee? hath he not made thee, and established thee?
7 Remember the days of old, consider the years of many generations: ask thy father, and he will shew thee; thy elders, and they will tell thee.
8 When the Most High divided to the nations (at Babel) their inheritance, when he separated the sons of Adam, he set the bounds of the people according to the number of the children of Israel (starting with Abraham, whom He called out of Ur).
9 For the Lord's portion is his people; Jacob is the lot of his inheritance.
10 He found him in a desert land, and in the waste howling wilderness; he led him about, he instructed him, he kept him as the apple of his eye.
11 As an eagle stirreth up her nest, fluttereth over her young, spreadeth abroad her wings, taketh them, beareth them on her wings:
12 So the Lord alone did lead him, and there was no strange god with him.
13 He made him ride on the high places of the earth, that he might eat the increase of the fields; and he made him to suck honey out of the rock, and oil out of the flinty rock;
14 Butter of kine, and milk of sheep, with fat of lambs, and rams of the breed of Bashan, and goats, with the fat of kidneys of wheat; and thou didst drink the pure blood of the grape.
15 But Jeshurun (Jerusalem) waxed fat, and kicked: thou art waxen fat, thou art grown thick, thou art covered with fatness; then he forsook God which made him, and lightly esteemed the Rock of his salvation. (Note that Moses is speaking to the 3 million Jews standing in front of him, but he was also speaking to the future generations of Jews, especially those at the time of “Jacob’s Trouble.”)
16 They provoked him to jealousy with strange gods, with abominations provoked they him to anger.
17 They sacrificed unto devils, not to God; to gods whom they knew not, to new gods that came newly up, whom your fathers feared not.
18 Of the Rock that begat thee thou art unmindful, and hast forgotten God that formed thee.
19 And when the Lord saw it, he abhorred them, because of the provoking of his sons, and of his daughters.
20 And he said, I will hide my face from them, I will see what their end shall be: for they are a very froward (perverse) generation, children in whom is no faith.
21 They have moved me to jealousy with that which is not God; they have provoked me to anger with their vanities: and I will move them to jealousy with those which are not a people; I will provoke them to anger with a foolish nation (the ‘nation’ of the One New Man).
22 For a fire is kindled in mine anger (Israel trusting in the Anti-Christ as their ‘god’ and ‘savior’ being the final straw), and shall burn unto the lowest hell, and shall consume the earth with her increase, and set on fire the foundations of the mountains.
23 I will heap mischiefs upon them; I will spend mine arrows upon them.
24 They shall be burnt with hunger, and devoured with burning heat, and with bitter destruction: I will also send the teeth of beasts upon them, with the poison of serpents of the dust.
25 The sword without, and terror within, shall destroy both the young man and the virgin, the suckling also with the man of gray hairs.
26 I said, I would scatter them into corners, I would make the remembrance of them to cease from among men:
27 Were it not that I feared the wrath of the enemy, lest their adversaries should behave themselves strangely, and lest they should say, Our hand is high, and the Lord hath not done all this.
28 For they are a nation void of counsel, neither is there any understanding in them.
29 O that they were wise, that they understood this, that they would consider their latter end!
30 How should one chase a thousand, and two put ten thousand to flight, except their Rock had sold them, and the Lord had shut them up?
31 For their rock is not as our Rock, even our enemies themselves being judges.
32 For their vine is of the vine of Sodom, and of the fields of Gomorrah: their grapes are grapes of gall, their clusters are bitter:
33 Their wine is the poison of dragons, and the cruel venom of asps.
34 Is not this laid up in store with me, and sealed up among my treasures?
35 To me belongeth vengeance and recompence; their foot shall slide in due time: for the day of their calamity is at hand (as we near the time of the Tribulation), and the things that shall come upon them make haste.
36 For the Lord shall judge his people, and repent himself for his servants, when he seeth that their power is gone, and there is none shut up, or left.
37 And he shall say, Where are their gods, their rock in whom they trusted,
38 Which did eat the fat of their sacrifices, and drank the wine of their drink offerings? let them rise up and help you, and be your protection.
39 See now that I, even I, am he, and there is no god with me: I kill, and I make alive; I wound, and I heal: neither is there any that can deliver out of my hand.
40 For I lift up my hand to heaven, and say, I live for ever.
41 If I whet my glittering sword, and mine hand take hold on judgment; I will render vengeance to mine enemies, and will reward them that hate me.
42 I will make mine arrows drunk with blood, and my sword shall devour flesh; and that with the blood of the slain and of the captives, from the beginning of revenges upon the enemy.
43 Rejoice, O ye nations, with his people: for he will avenge the blood of his servants, and will render vengeance to his adversaries, and will be merciful unto his land, and to his people.”
(Here we see the SEVERITY of God, but note that although God allows for Jacob’s Trouble, which is allowed to come upon them as a recompense for their choices, their restoration to preeminence in the Earth in the Millennial Kingdom speaks of God’s faithfulness to them. The history of the Jews is like no other people on Earth. And this is due to the covenant promises God made with the patriarchs Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, which will be fulfilled regardless of how the Jews have acted or will act. His unconditional covenant promise of blessing was given to Abraham in Genesis 22:12 because God had seen Abraham’s faithfulness to Him in his willingness to lay down the life of his own son… “And he said, Lay not thine hand upon the lad, neither do thou any thing unto him: for now I know that thou fearest God, seeing thou hast not withheld thy son, thine only son from me.”)
The Jews will be directed towards His ‘Governor, the Administrator’/the Messiah (typed in Joseph) for their salvation, Whom they did not recognize as Jesus. Whose attention then turns to holding His brethren accountable for their having rejected Him and turned Him over to the Gentiles for Crucifixion. Then, after having suffered according to Daniel’s prophecy… “Seventy weeks are determined upon thy people and upon thy holy city, to finish the transgression, and to make an end of sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up the vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most Holy.”… Jesus the Messiah reveals Himself to them as they see Him in His glorious Second Coming (in His full glory, typed in the ‘glory’ Joseph had when his brothers saw him in his regal clothes). (Zechariah 12:10-11… “…and they shall look upon me whom they have pierced, and they shall mourn for him, as one mourneth for his only son, and shall be in bitterness for him, as one that is in bitterness for his firstborn. In that day shall there be a great mourning in Jerusalem…”
(Zechariah 14:3-8… “Then shall the LORD (Jesus) go forth, and fight against those nations (the nations who are gathered at Armageddon for battle against the Lord after “three unclean spirits like frogs” work deceiving miracles and go out to all the kings of the earth to gather them), as when he fought in the day of battle. And his feet (Christ’s) shall stand in that day upon the mount of Olives, which is before Jerusalem on the east, and the mount of Olives shall cleave in the midst thereof toward the east and toward the west, and there shall be a very great valley; and half of the mountain shall remove toward the north, and half of it toward the south. And ye shall flee to the valley of the mountains; for the valley of the mountains shall reach unto Azal: yea, ye shall flee, like as ye fled from before the earthquake in the days of Uzziah king of Judah: and the LORD my God shall come (from the first heaven), and all the saints with thee (the Bride of Christ). And it shall come to pass in that day, that the light shall not be clear, nor dark: But it shall be one day which shall be known to the LORD, not day, nor night: but it shall come to pass, that at evening time it shall be light. And it shall be in that day, that living waters shall go out from Jerusalem; half of them toward the former sea (the Galilee), and half of them toward the hinder sea (the Mediterranean Sea): in summer and in winter shall it be…”
Jesus’ Jewish brethren then wholeheartedly repent… and are then restored and reconciled to their forgiving Messiah Jesus, the Lamb of God.
Divine ‘love’ (Jesus Christ) condescended to a mother’s womb, and being made in the likeness of man, came forth as a man. Perhaps they shall reverence Him… but no, they killed Him. (See this typed in Matthew 21:35-39… “And the husbandmen (the Jews) took his servants (prophets sent to them by God), and beat one, and killed another, and stoned another. Again, he sent other servants more than the first: and they did unto them likewise. But last of all he (God) sent unto them his son (Jesus), saying, They will reverence my son. But when the husbandmen saw the son, they said among themselves, This is the heir; come, let us kill him, and let us seize on his inheritance. And they caught him, and cast him out of the vineyard, and slew him.”) And even after His Resurrection, and after the testimony of His disciples and Apostles in the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, they continued to deny Him. And so Judgement must then come. And so historically, the Romans came and destroyed their Temple and Jerusalem… and scattered them among the Gentile Nations. And though God has a remnant in every generation that wholeheartedly preserve the Scriptures, their hearts are veiled in religious darkness until the Messiah Jesus comes again, when the Holy Spirit shall awaken their astonished hearts. (See Genesis 45:3. He is Joseph, their Brother, and Savior, whom they sold into Egypt.)
The Man and great Shepherd, mysteriously equal with God, is struck down. (Zechariah 13:7-9… “Awake, O sword, against my shepherd (Christ), and against the man that is my fellow (equal), saith the Lord of hosts: smite the shepherd, and the sheep shall be scattered: and I will turn mine hand upon the little ones. And it shall come to pass, that in all the land, saith the Lord, two parts therein shall be cut off and die; but the third shall be left therein. And I will bring the third part through the fire (of Jacob’s Trouble), and will refine them as silver is refined, and will try them as gold is tried: they (the 1/3 that remain) shall call on my name, and I will hear them: I will say, It is my people: and they shall say, The Lord is my God.”)
“They shall look unto Me whom they have pierced… and mourn”… ‘and I will look upon them with loving compassion’ and console them… in that the hand that slew Him was guided by the Father… to free them from their sins. (This being reminiscent of how Joseph had told His brethren that though they had meant it for harm, God meant it for good. Genesis 50:20… “But as for you, ye thought evil against me; but God meant it unto good, to bring to pass, as it is this day, to save much people alive.”)
THE MILLENNIAL KINGDOM begins as Jesus, the King of Kings, now in His Return, ends the 5000-year vain attempt of satan and man to fulfill Babel’s/Babylon’s dream in counterfeiting God’s Theocratic Government on the Earth without God. (Genesis 11:1) Originally, man was given dominion over both the earthly and heavenly portions of this Realm. Adam gave up that authority, but because of Jesus coming as a man to redeem man, and taking back that lost authority as a man, satan is a withering branch and the time of ruling for this ‘god’ and his ‘priests’ (rulers of the Earth-both spirits and man) is soon coming to an end.
The soon-coming 7th Millennium since Adam’s rebellion begins the fulfillment of God’s promise of Genesis 3:15 being fully realized in the UNCONDITIONAL Covenant promises unto Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. That of a great name, a numerous people (a natural posterity/seed “as the dust of the earth” ruling in the earthly realm and a spiritual posterity/seed “as the stars of heaven” ruling in the heavenly portion), being a blessing to the Gentiles, and ‘a curse to those who curse you,’ a Country of their own, and the progenitor of the Seed of Promise… (all these promises presume a resurrection from the dead wherein the Abraham’s progeny will realize the fulfillment of the promises). As mentioned before, that Covenant with Abraham that God ratified was/is to be forever and unconditional due to Abraham’s willingness to sacrifice his son Isaac, independent of Abraham’s future behavior, or that of Isaac’s or Jacob’s or the Israelites.
The time of their appointed promised inheritance has now come, and IT CAME NOT BY KEEPING THE LAW. Rather, it will have come in accordance with the ‘New Covenant’ with Israel based upon the finished Atonement work of Jesus Christ. (Note that the New Covenant has not yet been made. It will be made with the Remnant of Israel that is alive at His Coming when they apply the Blood of Jesus Christ’s Atonement. See Hebrews 8:7-13… “For if that first covenant had been faultless, then should no place have been sought for the second. For finding fault with them, he saith, Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah: Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day when I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt; because they continued not in my covenant, and I regarded them not, saith the Lord. For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days (the Last Days), saith the Lord; (the following to happen at the beginning of the Millennium…) I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people: And they shall not teach every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the Lord: for all shall know me, from the least to the greatest. For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more. In that he saith, A new covenant, he hath made the first old. Now that which decayeth and waxeth old is ready to vanish away.” Jeremiah 31:31-37… “Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah: Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt; which my covenant they brake, although I was an husband unto them, saith the Lord: But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the Lord, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people. And they shall teach no more every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the Lord: for they shall all know me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them, saith the Lord: for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more. Thus saith the Lord, which giveth the sun for a light by day, and the ordinances of the moon and of the stars for a light by night, which divideth the sea when the waves thereof roar; The Lord of hosts is his name: If those ordinances depart from before me, saith the Lord, then the seed of Israel also shall cease from being a nation before me for ever. Thus saith the Lord; If heaven above can be measured, and the foundations of the earth searched out beneath, I will also cast off all the seed of Israel for all that they have done, saith the Lord.”) The ‘New Covenant’ has nothing to do with the ‘New Testament’ Church/‘Body of Christ’… and therefore does not belong to this Dispensation. The New Covenant with Israel is Eternal (not only having its fulfillment in the Millennium, but beyond into Eternity) and is intricately involved with the resurrection of the faithful Jewish dead and eternal verities/principles based upon the Atonement purposes of Jesus the Christ.
