Still a _small window_ for negotiations to prevent all-out war

Muhanad Seloom from the Doha Institute for Graduate Studies says Iran sent messages to European nations saying it will launch a “measured” response against Israel, dismissing as rhetoric Iranian news reports suggesting it will also target infrastructure of Israeli allies in the Middle East.

“What we’re looking at is a dynamic and developing situation between Israel and Iran. But still to me it looks like there’s a small window to bring Iran back to negotiations,” he said.

“What we saw last night was an attack by Iran, but it was below the threshold of an open war. The Iranians have a lot of internal pressure so they had to respond, but they did it in a way that would not bring in the United States and European states,” Seloom told Al Jazeera.

“It doesn’t make sense for Iran now, with no good reason, to attack these locations – US installations for even embassies of European states.”

He said “even though Iran has been bruised severely”, its nuclear sites appear not to be completely destroyed so there is still room for negotiations with the United States on its nuclear programme.
