A manhunt is underway for the suspect who shot and killed Minnesota State Rep Melissa Hortman and her husband – and shot State Senator John Hoffman and his wife multiple times.

Rep. Melissa Hortman recently voted against her party to repeal Healthcare for illegal migrants – she was the deciding vote.

The lawmakers were shot at around 2 am on Saturday – at their own homes.

The shooter, described as a white male with brown hair, was reportedly impersonating a police officer, wearing black body armor over a blue shirt and blue pants.

The suspect was driving a dark-colored SUV equipped with a push-bumper, a driver’s-side spotlight, and red-and-blue flashing lights resembling an unmarked police vehicle.

Gov. Tim Walz saying the attack on Rep. Hortman was a "politically motivated ass*ssination."

Senator Hoffman was shot at least two times with his wife Yvette shot three

Police went out to Hoffman’s home first. A Brooklyn Park police sergeant then proactively checked on Hortman’s residence, running into the suspect, who fired at officers before taking off on foot after a shootout.
Police say they found a manifesto and a target list naming “many lawmakers,” including Hortman and Hoffman, in the suspect’s vehicle, putting them on high alert for additional attacks. Security has been sent out to the homes of the other people on the list, and All Minnesota lawmakers are under protective custody, with marked police vehicles stationed outside their homes
Police are warning that the suspect is armed and dangerous and may continue to impersonate a police officer. People are being told not to open doors to lone officers without calling 911 to verify, with Brooklyn Park officers are working in pairs to avoid confusion.
