USA Celebrates Flag Day 2025!

USA celebrates the flag and “the republic for which it stands, one nation under God with liberty and justice for all.”

This day and every day, our American flag serves as a symbol of freedom and our American ideals, here and across the globe.

FUN FACTS:

• On June 14, 1777, the Second Continental Congress passed a resolution stating that the flag of the Unites States be 13 stripes, alternating red and white,” and that the Union be 13 stars, white on a blue field representing a new constellation.”

• The color of the flag:
o Red stands for valor and bravery
o White represents purity and innocence
o Blue symbolizes vigilance, perseverance and justice

• While it was designed by Francis Hopkinson, a New Jersey delegate signatory of the Declaration of Independence, it is widely believed that Betsy Ross sewed the first flag.

• The orderly design of 50 stars we fly today was designed by a 17-year-old Ohio student named Bob Heft, who handed it in as a History class project. His congressman forwarded it on to President Eisenhower, and it has been flown since it was first raised July 4, 1960.
