Manteca, CA - The Manteca Police Department released body cam footage Friday showing what led up to officers shooting and killing a man in the parking lot of an In-N-Out Burger in April.

The scene unfolded around 5 p.m. on April 30 at the In-N-Out Burger on Yosemite Avenue.

Police said officers responded to a disturbance involving a man in a van in the restaurant’s drive-thru.

According to Manteca Police Sgt. Steven Beerman, employees refused to serve the man when they saw a beer can in his vehicle. He allegedly crashed into another car in the parking lot before officers arrived.

A witness later called police.

Surveillance video from the drive-thru, included in the footage released by police, shows the van striking the bumper of another car in front of it.

Police said the man allegedly rammed a patrol car as they contacted him. After 20 minutes of attempted de-escalation, the man allegedly rammed at least two police cars.

Five officers then fired their guns at the suspect's windshield. He was taken to a nearby hospital, where he later died.

The man was later identified as 69-year-old Charles McGonegal II, of Manteca, according to the San Joaquin County Medical Examiner's Office.

No officers were hurt.
