Lama Dawa Zangpo’s Commentary:
The Heart Sutra is one of the most revered and important sutras or teachings that came directly from the Buddha Shakyamuni, and it's called the Heart Sutra because it is the heart or essence of wisdom and a very condensed form. And then this famous quote is stated. The form is emptiness. Emptiness is form. There's nothing other than emptiness. Form does not get rid of emptiness or negate its truth, and emptiness does not negate the relative truth of form. This is interdependence in its most profound sense, and. When we look at apparent phenomena, meaning forms, what do we find if we really scrutinize, if we look deeply, if we take that form apart? If there's something there, we take it apart, something should remain the thing that is the thing, but nothing really is findable, and we can apply this to phenomena outside ourselves. And we can apply this to looking at oneself. This is extremely important in Buddhism, this understanding, this experience of emptiness.
