FIGHTING OVER GUARD SCREEN-INS & CONVERSION OFFENSE:

Zone defense gets a bad rap by a lot of coaches. It’s true, veteran coaches will carve a suspect zone defense up. However, fundamentally solid zone defenses can be a game changer. As with effective man-to-man defenses, it takes a lot of critical redundancy to make a zone defense effective. A few of our most important aspects of our 23-Zone:
- Moving on air time when sliding
- Contesting
- Avoiding screen-ins
- Bumping effectively
- On-Ball-Defense
- Off-Ball-Stance
- Off-Ball positioning
- Blocking out & Rebounding
In this clip, Dominique King (#35) fights over a guard screen-in properly, stays above the screener & uses his screen-side lead leg to fight over the screen-in. This leads to a steal & quick conversion to offense where Austin Nowak (#11) makes an outstanding offensive move & shot.
