Palantir Expands Role in U.S. Government Surveillance

Palantir, a company known for its surveillance and data analytics technology, is significantly increasing its footprint within the U.S. government's data infrastructure. The firm has secured multiple contracts across various federal agencies, gaining access to vast amounts of personal data on American citizens.

In March 2025, an Executive Order signed by former President Donald Trump directed all federal agencies to eliminate restrictions on the sharing of unclassified information, both internally and between agencies. Simultaneously, the administration allocated hundreds of millions of dollars in funding to Palantir. During a February 2025 investor call, CEO Alex Karp stated, “Palantir is here to disrupt... and, when it’s necessary, to scare our enemies and, on occasion, kill them.”

Palantir’s software platform, Foundry, is currently in use at four federal agencies, including the Department of Health and Human Services and the Department of Homeland Security. The company is also in discussions with other departments, such as the IRS. If widely adopted, this technology could enable the federal government to access Americans’ private data without a warrant, regardless of any connection to criminal activity.
