After using the Lumen Metabolism Tracker for over 8 weeks, I wanted to share what I’ve learned. In my original review, I had just started using the device, wasn’t following the macronutrient recommendations, and hadn’t received a Flex score yet. This update offers a more informed and balanced look at my experience.

Interestingly, my metabolic flexibility score went down over time, but that might make sense based on how I was using the device. I didn’t begin following the app’s recommendations until about four weeks ago, and I was experimenting with different diets early on.
In this review, I share how I gradually started following Lumen's guidance more closely, though I wasn’t perfect. I’ve lost about 12 pounds in the process, which I consider a positive outcome.
While I followed the protein and carbohydrate recommendations pretty well, I consistently consumed more fat than suggested. I also tended to eat carbs later in the day, which Lumen recommends doing earlier or post-workout.
One helpful feature of the Lumen app is how it adjusts your macros based on the type of exercise you log. High-intensity workouts result in a carbohydrate boost for recovery, showing that the more input you give the app, the more it customizes your recommendations.
There is evidence that exercise improves metabolic flexibility. Lumen emphasizes macronutrient timing and food intake as the primary strategy, and while that may be effective, I believe exercise could play an even bigger role.
One thing I disagree with is Lumen’s meal suggestions. Many of them resemble how I used to eat, which didn’t work well for me. If you prefer a diet rich in animal-based foods, you might find Lumen’s suggestions lean more plant-based than you’d like.
Still, the Lumen can help you become more aware of your habits, food intake, and activity levels. If you’re someone who wants clear guidance and is motivated to follow through, the Lumen can be a very useful tool for weight loss and self-accountability.
Tracking everything and regularly blowing into the device can become tedious, and trying to follow every recommendation can feel a bit restrictive. Personally, I prefer adjusting my routine based on how I feel rather than relying entirely on an app, but I’ve had years of experience learning to read my body.
Overall, the Lumen is worth considering if you’re ready to take consistent action and want a tool that gives you clear steps toward better health.
