See the lizard upon the fence, chilling in town,
Sceloporus occidentalis, they call it blue-belly,
With the colors of the earth, so bright, so ready.
From Arizona to Cali, in yard it a play,
Brown to black, watch the stripes all day,
But the belly is a bright blue, that’s the truth,
I say, “Look there, the king of the youth!”

Running up the fence, the feeling of a scene,
Blue-belly lizard, you run the zoo,

Five subspecies, all unique in the way,
San Joaquin to Sierra, they are all here to convey.
Crawling in the dirt, under the golden rays,
Iguania tribe, holding up their days,

In the dance of the lizard, we a find the proof.
