Miracle in Seat 11A: Lone survivor walks away from Air India crash— he exited the emergency exit seconds before crash, 290+ killed

In a stunning tale of survival, 38-year-old Ramesh Vishwas Kumar emerged as the sole survivor of a devastating Air India crash that claimed 241 lives onboard and 25 on the ground.

The London-bound Air India Flight AI171, a Boeing 787 Dreamliner, took off from Ahmedabad, Gujarat, on June 12, 2025. Shortly after takeoff, the aircraft suffered a catastrophic failure and crashed into a college hostel near Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport.

Of the 242 people on board, including passengers and crew, Kumar—seated in 11A—was the only one to make it out alive. Reports indicate that he opened an emergency exit and jumped moments before impact. He was found conscious and with only minor injuries by first responders.

Authorities are calling it an unprecedented case. Kumar, a British national of Indian origin, is undergoing medical and psychological evaluation. His miraculous escape has sparked both awe and disbelief across the world.

Eyewitnesses described the plane’s rapid descent, while investigators are analyzing black box data to determine whether mechanical failure, human error, or environmental factors played a role.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed deep condolences for the victims and called Kumar’s survival “a glimmer of hope in the midst of unimaginable tragedy.”

This marks the first recorded fatal crash of a Boeing 787 since the aircraft entered service. An international investigation is underway.
