IAEA adopts first Iran censure in 20 years amid uranium fears and threat of sanctions snapback

The IAEA has passed a resolution censuring Iran over its nuclear programme—the first such move in 20 years.
France, Germany, and the UK led the charge, citing uranium traces at undeclared sites and lack of transparency.
Tehran, calling the resolution a strategic mistake, warned of countermeasures and rejected the IAEA’s findings.
The US hopes to use the resolution to push Iran towards renewed talks and limits on uranium enrichment.
Experts warn Iran could reach weapons-grade enrichment within five months if it proceeds unchecked.
Iran has threatened to limit inspections or even withdraw from the Non-Proliferation Treaty if sanctions resume.
In response, Iran’s Foreign Ministry and its Atomic Energy Organisation announced in a joint statement that the country will build a new uranium enrichment facility “in a secure location”, adding that “other measures… will be announced later”.
