In a 1974 interview with Hector Peabody, Rand describes the “ideal man” as one who is:

Rational, not emotionalist

Independent in thought and values

Productive and purposeful

Self-respecting and proud

Committed to values based on reason

For Ayn Rand, the ideal man is: “A man guided by reason, motivated by purpose, and inspired by pride.” He does not sacrifice himself to others, nor others to himself. He lives by choice, not by whim or duty, and achieves happiness through the pursuit of his rational values.
