Israel is reportedly preparing to launch strikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities, according to US officials cited by CBS News. In response, Iran has warned of an “unprecedented” retaliation. The US State Department has advised American citizens to leave parts of the Middle East, while the Pentagon has authorised the voluntary departure of military families. President Donald Trump stated on 11 June that personnel are being moved due to potential danger and reiterated that Iran must not obtain a nuclear weapon.

Amid rising tensions, the UK Maritime Trade Organisation has warned ships in key oil routes to exercise caution. Iran's Defence Minister warned that if conflict breaks out, US bases across the region would be targeted. Meanwhile, the sixth round of nuclear talks scheduled in Oman appears increasingly unlikely. The US is also scaling back its diplomatic presence in Iraq and neighbouring regions as a precaution, citing ongoing threat assessments and a need to remain operationally ready.
