In a shocking incident at a recent anti-ICE protest in Los Angeles, Latino protesters were captured on video directing racist slurs, including the N-word, at a Black LAPD officer. This event, where one protester yelled, "I'll spit in your face f your family n-word f your kids n-word", has ignited a crucial, often uncomfortable, conversation about anti-Black racism within minority communities.
While some pro-Trump accounts, like "durags and maga caps," used the video to push a narrative of "Black Americans this ain't our business", many critics, including Dr. Rashad Richey, argue that issues like immigration deeply affect all Americans, especially Black Latin American immigrants and communities with high Black populations, such as Ethiopians in Los Angeles. Civil rights leaders from the National Urban League and other organizations have expressed "full and urgent solidarity" with California Governor Gavin Newsom and Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass, emphasizing the need for unity.
Compton native and rapper The Game also weighed in, advocating for "black and brown unity" based on the shared history and struggles in Los Angeles. This incident underscores the complex racial dynamics at play even within movements striving for human rights, highlighting the urgent need to address anti-Black racism that exists "within all minority communities" in the Western Hemisphere, where social status has historically been linked to proximity to "whiteness"
