Chronic tiredness is often rooted in a combination of toxicity, malnutrition, stagnation, and trauma. “You need to resolve all four for real health,” she explains. For example, a typical thyroid screening might only include TSH, but Dr. Francis tests a full panel: TSH, T4, free T4, T3, free T3, reverse T3, and markers for autoimmunity (TPO and Tg antibodies). Similarly, instead of just looking at serum iron, she’ll measure ferritin (stored iron) and homocysteine to get a real picture of nutrient status.

Avoid anything with those words on the label. Instead, opt for whole, unprocessed foods, and be especially careful with bread—even sourdough—it’s commercially produced.
She’s also a fan of strategic supplementation where needed—like iodine (crucial for thyroid health), selenium (think three Brazil nuts a day!), and iron—but only when labs confirm a deficiency.
Don’t Overlook Your Environment
Toxins aren’t just in food. Every day, plastics, fragrances (think dryer sheets, air fresheners, and personal care products), and cosmetics often contain endocrine disruptors like BPA, parabens, and phthalates, which can wreak havoc on your hormonal health and energy. Dr. Francis’s tip? Store food in glass, choose natural personal care items, and avoid artificial fragrances wherever possible.
The Best Diet For Energy? It’s Simpler Than You Think
Dr. Francis prescribes a “1+2 every 3 to 4 in 12” approach: one serving of protein and two servings of above-ground veggies every three to four hours, over a 12-hour eating window. Ditch grazing and focus on balanced meals to keep insulin and energy levels steady.
