Christian Student Rights Denied by School

The ACLJ is defending the constitutional rights of a ninth-grade student at Carmel High School in New York, whose Christian beliefs and religious expression have been repeatedly blocked by school officials. Despite finally receiving approval to form a Bible club after persistent efforts, school officials tore down her posters that included Bible verses, a cross, and an open invitation to fellow students. This is a blatant violation of both the First Amendment and the Equal Access Act. The student’s “offense” was her desire to encourage her peers and share the hope of her faith.
