This legislative session, HB1374 and SB480 were passed through the Oklahoma legislature. Both bills refer to something called, "behind the meter" legislation. BTM legislation allows private industry to put in place their own energy solutions instead of grabbing energy from existing energy infrastructure.

Bills that allow private organizations/businesses to produce their own energy and sell that back to their utility have been on the books in 38 states for numerous years. In Oklahoma, this 'net metering' is overseen by the Oklahoma Corporation Commission.

This type of legislation is being used to attract data farming because AI is a known data hog - among other resources. The easiest way not to tie up the grid would be for energy to be produced off grid at the site.

But what does this look like? We've all been told about jobs and millions in revenue, but what about the other side? Are there no problems we can think of? If we can't think of them are there really none, or are we just being so short sided that they'll catch us unaware. We'll talk to Rep. Boles about all these things and more.
