My name is Chandanbala. I was born a princess, the daughter of King Chetak of Vaishali. Life was pretty good, filled with all the comforts a royal family could offer. But then, war broke out between my father and King Shrenika of Magadha. It was a terrible time. Vaishali was conquered, and I, a princess, suddenly found myself a captive. It was terrifying and disorienting. I was sold into slavery, and my new owner, a merchant, didn't treat me kindly. He grew suspicious and angry, and in a fit of rage, he shaved my head and left me to starve.

One day, Mahavira, the great spiritual teacher, was passing by. He saw my plight and knew about my vow. As he approached, my chains miraculously broke, and my hair untangled. He offered me the only food I could accept – a small amount of lentils. This encounter was a turning point. From that moment, I became a follower of Mahavira and eventually the first female head of his monastic order of nuns. I dedicated my life to the path of Jainism, teaching and guiding thousands of women who sought spiritual liberation.
