The Whispering Mirror

In the small village of Elderglen stood an abandoned cottage known as Hollow Hearth. For years, no one dared enter—locals spoke of a mirror that whispered to those who dared to look into it. Some said it showed your darkest fear, others claimed it revealed how you’d die.

One stormy night, a curious teenager named Mira entered the cottage on a dare. Her friends waited nervously outside, flashlights shaking in their hands. Inside, dust cloaked every surface and spiderwebs danced in the corners. But there it was—the mirror, tall, cracked, and freestanding in the middle of the main room.

Mira approached cautiously. The storm raged outside, lightning flashing behind her reflection. At first, all she saw was herself, a little pale, a little nervous. Then the mirror began to whisper.

"Come closer…" it hissed, voice dry as dead leaves.

Mira, heart pounding, stepped forward. The image shifted. Her reflection stayed still—too still. It no longer copied her movements. Instead, it grinned, eyes turning pitch black.

"You let me in," it whispered.

Mira stumbled back, but the cottage door slammed shut. Her screams echoed through the night, but by the time her friends rushed in, she was gone. Only the mirror remained, and in its dusty surface, they saw Mira still standing—trapped inside, banging silently from the other side of the glass.

They ran, but the whispers followed them home. And the mirror? It was never found again… until a new family moved into Elderglen, and their young daughter found a strange old mirror in the attic.
